The process of chroma keying or compositing involves layering two images together, there are the subject in front of the green screen and the special effects or CGI put onto the green screen.
After the footage is shot, there are several steps until the results looks like real.
First, the new background is composited into the shot. After that, the chroma key singles out the selected colour and digitally removes it by rendering it transparent. Then, new elements can be added. So, so, the result will look as smooth and real as desired.
